It is only natural folks think it would be fun to turn their hobby into a career after they interact with makers and see the success they project on social media. The point of social media and its marketing platform is to feel relatable. So many people out there appear to have stumbled upon their success by accident. You can’t get on Pinterest without seeing pins that say “I make six-figures from my blog and I can show you how” (or maybe that is just my feed, lol). The invention of the internet, youtube, and blogging helped to make overnight success appear attainable for anyone. It also doesn’t hurt if you have some capital to finance the early stages of your dream. It takes knowledge, networking, research, and sometimes a bit of luck to achieve success. The reality behind the “work hard and you’ll get what you want” is that it takes more than hard work to be successful. Our parents wanted us to reach for the stars and be happy. I’m sure this isn’t every millennial’s experience, but I think a lot of us were brought up being told if you work hard you can do anything you set your mind to. Turning it into a profitable full time job seems like a dream. Quilt pattern design is super fun and I think a lot of quilters would love to design their own quilts.
